Project Introduction.
accelerating innovation within a Digital PMO transformation
As part of our work implementing a Digital PMO for South East Water, Movar Reply identified an opportunity to accelerate innovation and embed new ways of working across the organisation.
To support this, Movar Reply proposed and delivered a one-day Data Analytics Hackathon, designed to bring together teams from across the business to rapidly explore solutions to key operational challenges.
The event brought together nearly 50 participants from across South East Water and suppliers. Teams focused on challenges with direct impact on customer outcomes, including leakage reduction, improved project scheduling and enhanced drought intelligence.
By creating a structured, collaborative environment, Movar Reply enabled teams to move quickly from ideas to tested concepts within a single day, supporting both the immediate objectives of the hackathon and the wider Digital PMO transformation.
The Problem.
Unlocking faster, more effective solutions to complex operational challenges.
South East Water faces ongoing pressure to improve efficiency, resilience and customer outcomes across its operations. Key challenges such as leakage management, project delivery and drought planning require innovative approaches, supported by better use of data and collaboration across teams.
However, developing and testing new solutions through traditional processes can be time-consuming, often limiting the speed at which ideas can be validated and implemented. There was a clear need for a more agile approach that could accelerate innovation while bringing together expertise from across the organisation.
Our Solution.
A structured, data-driven hackathon to accelerate innovation and collaboration.
Movar designed and facilitated a Data Analytics Hackathon to create a focused environment for rapid problem-solving and innovation.
The event was structured around four key objectives:
- Innovation: exploring new approaches and techniques not currently being used to address operational challenges
- Acceleration of solutions: enabling teams to prototype and test ideas within a single day
- Collaboration: bringing together colleagues from across 12 departments and key suppliers to share knowledge and expertise
- Skill development: exposing participants to new tools, techniques and ways of working
Through this approach, teams were able to move quickly from problem definition to solution development, testing concepts in real time using data and collaborative input. The format significantly reduced the time typically required to explore and validate new ideas.
