Project Introduction.
safe, clean, and sustainable nuclear energy
Launched in September 2021, Newcleo entered the field of nuclear energy with a focus on developing safe, clean, and sustainable nuclear energy. Their aim was to amalgamate existing technologies cost-effectively and set a new standard in nuclear energy, specifically by designing lead-cooled fast reactors (LFRs) fueled with MOX for the next generation (Generation IV).
This initiative sought to contribute to climate change mitigation, global decarbonisation, and provide a stable power source while minimising nuclear waste. Recognising the importance of securing grant funding, Newcleo urgently required a First of a Kind (FOAK) schedule.

The Problem.
Newcleo faced the challenge of creating a comprehensive FOAK schedule to support their grant funding bid. The complexity of designing and building Generation IV nuclear reactors, coupled with the need to adhere to stringent safety and sustainability standards, emphasised the requirement for a robustly developed KOAK schedule using resources that understood the intricacies of constructing Generation IV nuclear reactors.
Our Solution.
Movar solution involved refining Newcleo's WBS by identifying and defining FOAK gaps. Drawing on experience from similar projects, applied industry norms to key areas, including commercial and funding considerations, design development, validation and verification processes, GDA and safety case assessments, site selection and preparation, permits and consents, and site construction.
Movar adhering to good planning practices, ensured schedule development prioritised continuity, consistency, and industry standards using Primavera P6.
